The Formula for Business Success®
Business success is predicated upon maximizing the following factors - Image, Time, and
Efficiency. The more a business has in any of these, the greater its success will be. That success will increase with
improvement in any of these areas. Everything that a business does should be geared towards improving its image, its time,
and its efficiency.
Through this and the next few newsletters, we will look at each of these factors and how they impact business
success.
Image - every business has an image, a reputation. It can be good. It can be bad. It can be
improving, or it can be deteriorating. A business' image is comprised of its customer service, its product
quality, the speed with which it delivers its products or services, how its employees carry themselves and
represent the organization including how they look, how they act, and how they sound. Do they have a "can-do" attitude
or are they nonchalant in their approach to what they are doing and how they interact with their prospects and customers?
Are the employees knowledgeable or are they "winging it"? How are their offices? Are they nice? Are the offices
professional and consistent with the company's image or are they shabby, a mess, and not a positive reflection upon the
organization? What are people saying about the company?
What about its vendors? Is everyone treated with respect and treated fairly…or are they abused, strung out on payments?
How does the company sound? Is the receptionist, if one even exists, pleasant, courteous, helpful?
Think about your business. What is its image? Put yourself in your clients/prospects shoes.
How do they see your image? If you are a one-person organization, think of your own professional image. How do others see
you? What are they hearing about you? What is their experience when they try to communicate with you or visit your
offices?
Importantly, what are you doing to improve your image? Even if your image is good, you must constantly
seek to improve it. You cannot rest on your laurels. Like the shark that always has to move forward in order to survive,
you must constantly improve to continue to succeed. Take classes, read relevant books and articles. Send your
employees to training classes. Upgrade your employees. Move to live-answer on your phones from voicemail. Outsource
services that are not your core competency - leverage the skill-set of others.
No matter how good your image or reputation is now, improving it will increase your business
success.
